Thomas Stidston was born on 19 July 1732 in Dean Prior, Devonshire, England, and remained closely tied to the region throughout his life. He was baptized on the same day in his birthplace and spent most of his life in Dean Prior. Thomas married Margaret Hayman (1739–1818) on 17 April 1759 in Buckfast-leigh, Devon. Together they had a large family, raising at least thirteen children between 1760 and 1783, including Richard Stidston (1773–1841), Margaret Stidston (1767–1839), and Joan Stidston (1780–1853). Thomas lived through significant local and national changes in 18th-century England and passed away on 13 December 1807 in Dean Prior at the age of 75. His life is well-documented through numerous parish records, reflecting his long-standing presence and active role in the Anglican community of Devon.
